Lagos State Government has commenced the crushing of commercial motorcycles popularly called Okada in the State.

A total of 2,228 motorcycles, are being crushed by the State Task Force over non-compliance with the ban by some of the commercial motorcycle operators.

The physical crushing, which took place at Alausa in Ikeja on Friday was witnessed by the Lagos State Commissioners for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, his transportation counterpart, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde and the chairman of Lagos Task Force, Mr. Shola Jejeloye, among others.

Mr. Shola Jejeloye said the crushing of the commercial motorcycles will continue in the state, stating that there has been 85 percent compliance with the law, he also stated that the number of commercial motorcycles on Lagos roads has drastically reduced following the enforcement since June 1.

The State Government kept to its word that it would seize and crush any confiscated motorcycles. This is a testament to that.

He assured Lagosians that the state government will not relent in enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycles on highways and restricted areas, adding that the sustainability plan is the next phase of the ban.

In his word, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, noted that the essence of crushing the seized commercial motorcycles in the state is to send a strong signal to commercial motorcycles operators that the Lagos State Government’s decision on the ban is no joke.

Omotoso also disclosed that about 5,000 motorcycles have been crushed in the first quarter of 2022 and 2,000 motorcycles were crushed today at Alausa making it 7,000.
